Activities conducted by Centre :
Women’s Studies Centre, Vidyasagar University has organized many seminars, workshops, training & awareness programmes,
special lectures and winter schools. Some of which are given below.
A. Seminars:
- UGC-sponsored National Seminar on “Women development in the Perspective of Socio-Cultural, Environmental and Health Issues” on 30th March, 2010.
- UGC-sponsored National Seminar on “Protecting the Rights of the Marginalized Women: Modes and Challenges” on 12th January, 2011.
- UGC-sponsored National Seminar on “Women Health: Recent Research & Trends” on 17th March, 2011.
- National Seminar on “Women and Domestic Violence” on 2nd March, 2012.
- UGC-Sponsored Seminar on “Harassment of Women at Workplace “on 23rd March, 2012.
- UGC-sponsored National Seminar-cum-Legal Literacy program on “Access to Justice for Women- Issues and Perspectives” for the female students on 15th March, 2013.
- UGC-sponsored National Seminar on “Trafficking of Women and Girls: A serious Human Rights Violation” on 19th March, 2014.
- Human Rights Commission of India sponsored national seminar on “Discourse on Human Rights Focusing Women Issues” on 17th December, 2015.
B. Workshops :
- “Women Self-Help Groups of Different Districts of West Bengal” on 31stMarch, 2010.
- “Self Defense” for the female students and lady faculty members, 3-7 March, 2014.
- “Self-defense” for the female students and lady faculty members, 13-19 January, 2018.
C. Training & Awareness Programs :
- A training program was held on 27th December, 2010 on “Ergonomic Counseling for the Women Working in Agriculture” at Karnagarh, Midnapore.
- An Awareness and Training Programme on “Mother and Child Health and Nutrition” was held on 27th December, 2011 at Tantigeria Primary School, Midnapore.
- An Awareness and Training Program was held on 8th February, 2013 on “Diseases Prevention and Health Promotion of Women and Adolescent Girls”. The program was held on 8th February, 2013 at Tantigeria no. 1 Primary School, Tantigeria under the Midnapore subdivision of Midnapore (Paschim) District, West Bengal.
- An Awareness programme on ‘Health and Nutrition of Female Dokra Artisan’ was organized by the Women’s Studies Centre on 9th March, 2013 at Bikna, Bankura.
- An Awareness programme on ‘Early Marriage of Adolescent Girls’ on 30th December, 2013 was organized at Delua Primary School, Delua, Paschim Medinipur to increase awareness on women related issues.
- A Training Programme on ‘Mother and Child Health Care’ on 30th December, 2013 was organized at Delua Primary School, Delua, Paschim Medinipur to increase awareness of women related issues.
- One-month program on Skill Development of village women from 23.02.2017 to 24.03.2017
D. Documentation Program :
- A Documentation Programme on ‘Women Potua Painter’ was held on 30th March, 2013. Chitrakars Baharjan (jamuna), Manimala (Daughter of Baharjan), and Ruksana (Granddaughter of Baharjan) attended the program.
- Women’s Studies Centre, V.U. organized a ‘Documentation Program on Female Dokra Artisan’ on 9th March, 2013 at Bikna, Bankura.
E. :
- A Three-day UGC-sponsored National Level Orientation Program on ‘Perspectives on Women Studies: Contemporary issues and Curriculum Development’ was held from 28-30th March, 2011.
- Members of Women’s Studies Centre, V.U. have participated in many National and International Seminars, Symposia and Workshops on women related issues.
- Many Research Papers, Books, Articles have been published on women issues by members of Women’s Studies Centre, V.U.
- A library has been formed by purchasing books of about Rs. 3, 66,000.00 only on gender-related issues.
- Different members of Women’s Studies Centre, V.U. have supervised many Dissertation Projects on gender related issues facing society today.
F. Winter School :
- Winter School (Equivalent to Refresher Course) on “Gender, Women and Society: Debates and Development” from 05-25 January, 2016.
- 2nd Winter School (Equivalent to Refresher Course) on “Gender Equity: Status, Ideologies and Future Challenges” from 05-25 January, 2018.

- “Women Medical Care and the Colonial State” delivered by Smt. Shamita Sarkar, Department of History, Vidyasagar University on 31st July, 2015.
- “Indian Army Rape Us-Kristeva’s Herethics and the Semio Bodies of Mother of Manorama” delivered by Prof. Sagnika Chandaon on 13th August, 2015.
- “Nari Charitra O Grihosthalir Bakoron: Bengali Bhadroloker Chintai Adarsho Nari O Poribar 1870-1905” delivered by Prof. Aparajita Dasgupta, on 15th March, 2017.
- “Women in Migration Partition to Present Day” delivered by Professor Paula Banerjee, University of Culcutta on 22th March, 2017.
- “Customs Rights and Identity: Tribal Women in Colonial Eastern India” delivered by Prof. Sanjukta Dasgupta,University of Rome, Italy on 31th March, 2017.
- “Customary Law and Tribal Women in North East India” delivered by Prof. Md. Parvez, Centre of Advanced Study, Aligarh Muslim University, on 31th March, 2017.
- “Women Nature Relationship the Changing Interface” delivered by Prof. M. H. Quereshi, J.N.U. on 19th March2018.
- “Women in Politics in South Asia” deliverd by Dr. Sreeradha Dutta, former Director, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata, on 1st September, 2018.
