Department Of Chemistry & Chemical Technology :
About the department :
Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology started its journey in
1988 with three faculty member, one non-teaching staff, four classrooms
and one laboratory room. In spite of so many difficulties, the
department passed its glorious nineteen years and reaches the present
status. Now the department consists of seven faculties, three
non-teaching staff, five class rooms, three laboratory rooms and three
research labs. Department offers M. Sc in Chemistry both in regular and
distance mode. The main thrust of our curriculum includes both pure &
applied Chemistry. We have specialization in M.Sc second year with
Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry along with professional
courses like polymer science and environmental science. Present
intake of student is 45. Three affiliated undergraduate colleges also
offer M. Sc in Chemistry under the nodal supervision of this department.
The department has also introduced semester system. Keeping in
view of the recent global trend of the development of the subject, the
syllabus up gradation is also made accordingly. Department can boast of
its potential faculty members who are engaged in research works in the
frontier field of science including new drug for cancer therapy, nano-science,
green chemistry, theoretical chemistry, inorganic material chemistry,
surfactant chemistry. Presently,
a number of research project from different funding agencies like DST,
UGC, CSIR are running in the department. Research scholars of different
Universities as well as our University are the main weapons of these
research activities. Already twenty students have been awarded Ph.D.
degree and twenty five students have registered so far. Faculty members
are regularly publishing their research findings in the national and
internationally reputed journals.
Department use to organize seminars and workshops on the frontier filed
of science in a regular basis.
Performance of our students in different national level exams., like
GATE, NET, SET etc is quite satisfactory. A large number of pass out
students of this department have acquired their position in different
national and foreign universities, research Institutes, colleges, R& D
section of various national and multinational companies.
